Sevilla and Marcos Acuna would not be averse to selling him to Aston Villa in the January transfer window, after the failed summer move.
That’s according to Vamos Mi Sevilla, who say both parties are more than open to the move to Villa Park if it is offered to the Argentine again.
Acuna was close to joining Aston Villa at the end of the summer transfer window as part of Monchi and Unai Emery’s efforts to rebuild the squad for this season.
The move was ultimately scuppered by an injury which made it impossible, but Acuna has since returned from that, with it reported in Spain yesterday that he was back in the shop window.
He had an agreement closed with Aston Villa that would have ‘greatly improved his salary’ but a deal between the two clubs could not be reached as Monchi didn’t agree with Sevilla’s demands.
The plan is to ‘expose himself’ once again now he is fit, ahead of the January transfer window, where he is hopeful of securing a possible departure.
At 31-years-old and with a contract until 2025, Sevilla ‘would not take a bad look’ at a departure, particularly as he has a large contract that they’d be happy to get rid of.
Whether Aston Villa do come calling again, particularly with Lucas Digne starring, remains to be seen but the opportunity is there as far as they’re concerned in Spain.
