Inter Milan intend to keep Romelu Lukaku at the club next season but will seek better terms from Chelsea than the ones secured in the summer.
That’s according to journalist Gianluca di Marzio, relayed by FC Inter News, who provides information on Inter’s plans for the forward.
The Belgian returned to Italy on a loan deal in the summer, with Chelsea deciding to cut their losses after a disastrous return to Stamford Bridge last season.
He is yet to get going this season, with hamstring, ankle and bicep issues limiting him to just five appearances and 256 minutes of action in all competitions so far.
He also failed to get back into form at the World Cup, with Belgium crashing out in the group stages last night and Lukaku a major player in that as he missed several big chances in the crunch clash with Croatia.
It had raised doubts about whether Inter Milan would want to keep the Chelsea man at the end of the season, with his current deal a simple loan move that expires in June next year.
It seems they have every intention of re-signing the striker, although they are planning to negotiate again first.
“Romelu Lukaku will remain at Inter on loan, with the same formula as last market,” FC Inter News report him saying to Calciomercato – L’Originale.
“I believe that the Nerazzurri club will leverage with Chelsea on the physical difficulties of the last year to try to get him on lower terms.
“If he succeeds then in 2024, we will talk again about the redemption. Lukaku will be satisfied and will play at Inter again next year.”
