Sampdoria owner Massimo Ferrero has ruled out bringing Walter Zenga back to his club. Zenga is currently without a job after recently being sacked by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Calciomercato have reported on comments Ferrero made to an Italian radio station when asked about the situation with Zenga. The former Italy international was the coach of Sampdoria last year, but Ferrero ruled out a return despite having a conversation with him.
Zenga rang the Sampdoria chief to ask why he’d been sacked by him despite his record being better than the current coach. Ferrero explained things are different a year on, and that reunions never work out in football
“Zenga has called me, reminding me that last year I relieved him of his duties with one point more, while this year, with one less, I kept Giampaolo. I’m sorry dear Zenga, an extra year things are different. Call Zenga? in football reunions never work… ” said the Sampdoria owner.
Zenga joined Wolves in the summer following the takeover of the Championship side. A number of players were brought in during the window with the help of super agent Jorge Mendes, including recruits from Benfica. However, Wolves’ poor start to the season cost Zenga his job after just a few months in the role.
