Club in ‘negotiations’ with Southampton for forward – Looking to replace key player

Having seemingly agreed to sell Jérémie Boga to Atalanta, Sassuolo need to replace him.

It’s a big ask, such is the importance of the Ivory Coast international at the Italian club, but it’s a task they now have to undergo, with Southampton’s Mohamed Elyounoussi a target.

That comes from Italy, with a few voices here and there suggesting the Norway international is one of the candidates for the job.

In fact, TuttoMercatoWeb go as far as claiming that ‘negotiations’ are already taking place between Sassuolo and the Saints for the 27-year-old, who has 39 caps for his country to date.

Despite spending last season on loan at Celtic, Elyounoussi has found himself playing more often than not under Ralph Hasenhüttl this season, starting 10 Premier League games and picking up two gaols along the way.

The last time he found the back of the net was in that impressive 3-2 away win to in-form West Ham United on Boxing Day.

There’s no indication of how much Elyounoussi would cost, but it’s fair to say that Southampton will want a decent amount of money for him, especially with 18 months left on his contract.
