During the January transfer window, Leicester City were interested in signing Nicolás González from Fiorentina.
In fact, there were claims the Foxes went as far as offering €35m for the Argentina international, but the Serie A side weren’t interested in doing a deal for a player they believed could help them achieve a decent spot in the league come the end of the season.
However, hope hasn’t turned into reality, as the forward has struggled to find the required form so far, as Fiorentina sit 15th after 23 games, and González has only played 618 minutes of league football, scoring three times in 13 appearances.
They recall the Premier League side ‘had offered €35m’, but Fiorentina ‘flatly refused’; a decision shared by the squad as a whole.
That being said, it could be something they ‘might start to regret’ if the player doesn’t start performing as well, especially when added competition is now here in the shape of Josip Brekalo and Riccardo Sottil.
That’s why the Leicester January target, arguably their ‘most talented player’, needs to ‘prove that he is a leader’.
Otherwise, those €35m will never come again, and Leicester will certainly feel they have dodged a bullet in the long run.
