Real Betis are planning to sign Sergi Altimira to a new deal to further push him away from the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say Betis have plans to get Altimira signed to a new deal after Wolves efforts for him fell by the wayside.

A report yesterday from ABC Sevilla explained that Wolves had made an attempt to sign the midfielder this month as they look to strengthen Vitor Pereira’s squad.

The newspaper claimed that they and several other Premier League clubs had been in contact with the player’s agents about a move but that never formalised into anything concrete.

And it seems Betis’ intention is to not let him leave anytime soon either. In fact, they plan to sign the 23-year-old to a brand-new contract instead.

According to Mundo, they want to offer the midfielder a new and improved contract until 2028 that will also see his current release clause, which is valued at €40m, undergo a ‘substantial increase’.

They believe Altimira is a fundamental part of their future after impressing so far this season and know his market value will continue to grow. Thus, they want to protect themselves more than they already have and push him further away from Wolves and other suitors in the process.
