Borussia Dortmund are one of the clubs circling around Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham.
On April 26th, we covered claims from Germany which stated the 19-year-old can be a huge reinforcement for BVB. It was also reported RB Leipzig are in the picture to sign him in the summer window.
Borussia Dortmund have stepped up their efforts to secure the Sunderland star’s services, according to Ruhr Nachrichten.
On Wednesday, BVB manager Niko Kovač, managing director, Lars Ricken, and sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, made a trip to Newcastle via a private jet.
This trip was likely to carry out negotiations for the midfielder’s transfer. The newspaper local to BVB say the three officials returned to Germany later that day. In this way, they are intensifying their efforts to acquire his signature.
Ruhr Nachrichten caught up with the trio outside the Dortmund airport, but they refused to share details of their trip to Newcastle.
The player’s brother, Jude Bellingham, spent three years at the Signal Iduna Park before moving to Real Madrid in 2023. The German club maintain contacts with Bellingham’s family, and this may be decisive for them to win the race.
If they want to sign Jobe, the report adds Dortmund have to offer €22m to Sunderland.
Sky Deutschland journalist Patrick Berger took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report Kovač, Ricken and Kehl were in England for talks to sign the Sunderland player. He hasn’t made it clear if the negotiation was with Bellingham’s camp, the Black Cats or both.
Berger adds Sunderland’s asking price is around €25m, €3m more than the figure quoted by Ruhr Nachrichten.
