Newcastle United are battling it out with AC Milan to sign Sven Botman this summer, after the two clubs failed to take him away from Lille in January.
On Wednesday, we covered claims made by Corriere dello Sport, which stated the Magpies’ pressure to land the defender is suffocating him.
The Tyneside club plan to offer a deal, to both the Ligue 1 side and the 22-year-old, better than that from the Serie A winners. The centre-back, however, favours a move to the San Siro.
According to La Voix du Nord, Stefano Pioli’s side remain a priority for the Lille man in the ongoing window. Milan are offering around €25-30m to the Ligue 1 side, while Newcastle’s proposal is approaching €40m.
Il Giorno in Italy state the Premier League side offered Lille a proposal ‘higher’ than that of the Rossoneri. However, Botman only sees the option to join Milan and his firm position should help them find white smoke for this deal in the end.
These claims are also echoed by Sport Mediaset, who state that Lille ‘insist’ the player accepts the offer to join Eddie Howe’s side.
However, the Dutchman has refused to back down and has ‘rejected yet another attempt’ from Newcastle. That’s because Botman has promised Milan he’ll join them this summer.
