Turkish side Trabzonspor have ‘increased their efforts’ to sign Southampton defender Duje Caleta-Car in the summer, but a deal may be out of Saints’ hands.
That’s according to Haber 61, who say the defender is very much on Trabzonspor’s list of options ahead of the summer.
The newspaper explains that Trabzonspor have increased their efforts to get Caleta-Car from Southampton, who are still downsizing following relegation to last season.
They sent the Croatian on loan to Olympique Lyon in the summer and he’s been a regular for them this season. The French side also have an option to make the move permanent, thus any transfer deal may be out of their hands.
Trabzonspor are unperturbed by that, though, and will ‘intensify their negotiations’ with Southampton for the 27-year-old if the French side decide not to sign Caleta-Car permanently.
They have a good relationship with Southampton after doing deals with them for Mislav Oršić and Paul Onuachu in the summer and are hoping to take advantage of that in any potential negotiations for Caleta-Car in the coming months.
Whether he would be interested in the move remains to be seen and at this point it all depends on Lyon, and if they decide to take up their option to sign him at the end of the season.
