On August 4th, Gazzetta dello Sport reported Newcastle United are among the clubs who may provide competition to Bologna in the chase for Toulouse’s Logan Costa.
The Magpies are posing an obstacle for the Serie A side to try and sign the 23-year-old this summer.
That’s according to Il Resto del Carlino, who provide fresh updates on Newcastle and Bologna pursuing the centre-back.
The Italian club have offered €12m plus €3m bonuses and a percentage [20%] of a fee from future sale. The Ligue 1 side haven’t accepted this, mainly because of Newcastle.
Eddie Howe’s side are in the market for a central defender and have made contact with the French club for the Cape Verde international.
It’s claimed Toulouse won’t let him leave for less than €20m in this window, ‘as long as there’s a chance to negotiate’ with the Premier League side.
Il Resto del Carlino’s title says Newcastle are ‘around the corner with €25m’, and within the report, it’s said they have a budget of €20-25m. This makes clear that they wouldn’t have an issue meeting Toulouse’s asking price for Costa.
The Tyneside club have also shown interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi and AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw. Bologna are waiting for developments at St James’ Park, to find out if they can secure Costa’s services.
