Real Sociedad will not completely let go of their hope around Willian Jose moving to Wolves on a permanent transfer this summer.

When the Premier League club signed the striker on loan in the winter market, the feeling in the media close to La Real was that the deal would be permanent in months. Jose making Wolves his parent club was seen as a sure thing, and it was reported clauses in the loan deal made it near-certain.

However, the Brazilian had a poor spell during his months in England and it doesn’t make a great deal of sense for Wolves to keep him around for next season, unless he’s been seriously impressing in training.

Noticias de Gipuzkoa, who specialise in Real Sociedad, say Wolves will have to pay €3-4m compensation should they not use their buying clause, and there’s still been some hope they will trigger the option.

As far as the Spanish club have it, Wolves have been waiting to officially appoint a new manager before making a final decision. Now Bruno Lage’s arrival has been announced, there’s an assumption the answer will come soon.

It’s unlikely to be what the Basque side want, and even in the case that Wolves do decide to give Willian Jose longer to impress, it’s likely they’d want to negotiate down the cost.
