Everton striker Neal Maupay has a deal in place with Marseille, but they are yet to agree terms with the Toffees.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that the French side could turn their attention elsewhere if Everton don’t agree to a deal.
FM report that Marseille see Maupay as the number one candidate to replace Faris Moumbagna’s serious knee injury.
The matter has not proven to be a simple one as Everton are demanding a fee for the striker, who is in the final year of his deal at Goodison Park.
They’ve already reached an agreement with the striker, who remains the priority, but Everton haven’t moved. There is also competition from Brentford that could stop them getting their man.
Thus, faced with the difficulties encountered in the Maupay case, Marseille have turned to Italy and Torino’s Antonio Sanabria.
He’s seen as ‘more accessible’ than Maupay at this moment in time and Torino already have a replacement lined up should he leave. That makes him even easier to get if they decide to move.
The focus remains on Maupay for now, but time is running out and they need Everton to move. Perhaps them making it clear they’re looking elsewhere is a sign to the Toffees to try and move things along.
