Last month, Sport explained Joan García’s performances for Espanyol towards the end of last season had caught Arsenal’s interest.
The goalkeeper kept 12 clean sheets and conceded 10 goals from 21 games last season. He was vital in helping his side secure promotion to La Liga.
Recent claims have stated Arsenal have reached an agreement with the 23-year-old. This has reached Spain and Wednesday’s edition of AS provides their take on this case.
At this moment in time, the La Liga side haven’t received a formal bid from the Gunners and have no intention to part ways with the star this summer.
Therefore, AS state Espanyol have leaked the information that García can only leave if his clause is activated. It was set at €25m, before it was raised to €30m from August 15th.
Espanyol, who are in constant contact with the player, have made him aware that he’s important for the club. At the same time, Arsenal are knocking on the Spaniard’s door, but they will have to sell Aaron Ramsdale to sign him.
The Spanish club are ‘calm’, but losing García to Arsenal would be a blow for them. He’s a key player and finding a low-cost replacement at this stage of the window won’t be easy.
There could be movements if Ramsdale were to leave Arsenal.
