It appears that Aston Villa have scared Athletic Club a bit when they were trying to sign Nico Williams this summer.
The interest from the Villans in the forward is nothing new, as it dates back to last June, and while the Spaniard wasn’t keen on moving to Birmingham then, that doesn’t mean he might not in the future.
Estadio Deportivo have an advance on the situation surrounding the Aston Villa summer target, and explain that the club and the player are working on a new contract.
As things stand, his desire is to ‘continue in San Mamés’ and the talks for a renewal are ‘very advanced’.
It’s recalled he ‘already said no’ to the offer from Aston Villa, who were ‘willing to pay his termination clause’ of €50m.
However, there is also a ‘fear’ that the player ‘will be able to pack his bags’ in the near future, considering he is only 21 and a huge talent.
Basque outlet Bilbao Hiria also cover the current situation surrounding the Athletic Club star, and it’s said they are currently ‘contemplating three different clauses’.
This would mean a deal with a different release clause for every year of his new contract, which would allow them to ‘reflect the player’s increasing value’ but also scare off interested teams, such as Aston Villa.
