Southampton will face competition from Sevilla if they look to turn Takumi Minamino’s loan move from Liverpool into a permanent deal in the summer.

Minamino joined Southampton on loan from Anfield in January, having struggled for game-time under Jürgen Klopp this season.

He’s featured in both of their games since the move, scoring on his debut in the defeat to Newcastle and featuring for 62 minutes in the loss to Wolves.

His future at Liverpool appears uncertain, with the player very much not a part of their plans, hence the move to Southampton in the first place.

Fichajes, though, report that the Sevilla ‘have not lost track’ of the Japanese forward and want to take advantage of the situation to secure his signature.

They report that the director of football Monchi is a fan of the player and would be willing to offer €10m for him, which is the price he is currently valued at.

Such a figure would not be a problem for the Spanish club, who are set to make money from Oussama Idrissi joining Ajax.

Like Monchi, Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui would be ‘delighted’ to work with Minamino, who has impressed since his time with RB Salzburg in Austria.

There is still a long way to go until the summer transfer market opens so there is work to be done, but Monchi already has his eye on the player and will do ‘everything possible’ to take advantage of the situation.

Thus, Southampton will have a fierce competitor to beat if they decide to try and turn the 26-year-old’s move into a permanent one when his loan spell comes to an end.
