Salernitana are still in the mix to sign Pape Matar Sarr after failing to get the Tottenham Hotspur player in the winter market.

That’s according to Tutto Salernitana, who say the Serie A side could make another attempt to sign the 20-year-old in the summer.

The midfielder arrived at Tottenham last summer, a year after they had agreed a deal with Metz for his transfer. He had to wait until January to make his first team debut for Spurs.

The Senegal international’s lack of game time in 2022 convinced the Italian club to take him on a loan deal in January and this was confirmed by Salernitana sporting director Morgan De Sanctis.

Tutto Salernitana state the Serie A side weren’t able to sign the player in the last window because the north London club refused to let him leave. He’s featured 13 times for Spurs this year and has still ‘remained in the sights’ of Salernitana.

It’s stated Salernitana are set to face tough competition to sign Sarr in the summer but it won’t put them making a fresh attempt to secure his services.
