Back in September, Leicester City were linked to Benfica defender Morato.
Reports from Brazil claimed that both the Foxes and AC Milan were interested in the centre-back. At the time, the Eagles had been making big efforts to keep the player, having turned down a €15m offer from Rennes.
Even though Leicester City’s chase for Morato did not become a big thing, it seems the Premier League side could soon have a new chance to sign the 21-year-old.
That’s because today, Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias features a story claiming Benfica currently have too many defenders in the squad, and that could convince them to let some go in the January transfer window.
From the six centre-backs available, Morato and John Brooks are called the ‘weakest links’ and could be the first to go. The outlet just says the Brazilian’s departure becomes more difficult because of the €15m offer they turned down in the summer.
So just in case Leicester City are still interested in the player, this may be an interesting opportunity for them to knock on Benfica’s door and try to get a decent deal.
