Flamengo are now ‘close to announcing’ an agreement to sing Southampton’s Carlos Alcaraz after talks between the two clubs reached the most advanced stages, reports O Dia.
Alcaraz was last season sent on a disappointing move to Juventus which may be used as an example in years to come of how not to use outgoing loan deals.
His perceived value dropped and despite there being some interest from Serie A again, with Lazio specifically named by the Italian media recently, the deals potentially on offer were even worse than the Juve one.
Now a move to Brazil is set to see things work out much better for Southampton. The Saints and Flamengo have been in talks for days to finalise a move for Alcaraz and Brazilian newspaper O Dia states things are almost at an end.
The Premier League club will receive €18m, with the loan of Flamengo’s Victor Hugo also thrown in. However, Hugo won’t be going to Southampton, but rather sister club Goztepe.
Carlos Alcaraz is set to sign a contract with Flamengo until 2029.
