As the easiest man to get, it’s no surprise that AS Roma are keeping the Rui Patricio card in their back pocket for the time being.

The general consensus in the Italian media these days is that if they want the Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper next season, they will get him, but only if they can’t find anyone younger.

That’s what Corriere dello Sport are reporting on Wednesday, explaining that Tiago Pinto is ‘holding’ Rui Patricio, but ‘has not yet decided whether to take him’.

At 33 years of age, his value is around €7-8m, deemed as ‘not a big investment’, and it’s for this reason that an ‘extensive screening is underway on the main leagues in search of a younger goalkeeper who can represent a heritage of the club’.

If such an opportunity arises, they will go for it, or simply take advantage of the likely domino effect kicked off by Gianluigi Donnarumma, with the likes of Hugo Lloris or even Keylor Navas potentially becoming available.

Should none of that help them, however, then Rui Patricio would quickly become active again for them and a signing would be pulled off.

Calciomercato.it, however, see it a bit differently, as they claim an ‘acceleration is expected’ from AS Roma for the Wolves goalkeeper, and they are looking for a ‘definitive agreement’ with the Premier League side.

Rui Patricio is allegedly ‘already ready to fly’ to Rome, ‘eager to start a new adventure’.

However, the Euros are around the corner, meaning all parties are ‘working to close the agreement before the start of the competition’ before finalising it afterwards.
