Malmo FF sports director Andreas Georgson has admitted it would be ‘fantastic’ if they could bring defender Pontus Jansson back to the club from Brentford.

The Swedish club were recently linked with a move for the defender, whose contract at Brentford expires next summer.

He’s spoken of his desire to return to the club on several occasions, having started his career there and moved up their youth ranks before going on to make 128 appearances in all competitions for them.

Next summer could be the perfect opportunity for him to do so if he ends up available on a free at the end of his deal.

Aftonbladet in Sweden have already reported that there is interest from his former side and they are ready to invest “a lot of money” to tie the defender down.

In fact, it was claimed that first contact with the Brentford man has already been held and now Georgson has had his say on the matter.

“I do not want to estimate it in percentages,” he told Sydsvenskan, relayed by Fotbollskanalen.

“His passion for this club is very great and his skill is high. If we find a way, that would be fantastic. If we don’t find it, it’s understandable. He plays in the world’s best league and is team captain.

“Yes, all the time. He is close to us,” he added when asked about if the two parties have talked about a return.
