Wilfried Gnonto signed a new deal at Leeds United some weeks ago, which came as something of a boost to the Champions club are their fans.

The context to the Italian’s situation made it bigger news, as Gnonto had asked to leave Leeds in 2023 and seemed desperate to do so. The move didn’t materialise and even this summer, Gnonto signed a new deal despite talk of interest from Everton.

Blick in Switzerland have now reported that the extension is essentially a wage increase for the winger and protection for the Whites.

Leeds United should earn more from the sale and Gnonto’s former club FC Zurich are also rubbing their hands together at the prospect of getting some money.

The newspaper believes Gnonto leaving Leeds for a big fee in the future seems likely. They go back to club President Ancillo Canepa’s comments from a month ago, when he mentioned that Zurich will receive a ‘fairly significant’ sell-on fee from Gnonto’s transfer.

Therefore, they are hoping that the winger leaves Leeds soon. The departures of Archie Gray, Crysenscio Summerville and Georginio Rutter give them the optimism that the Whites will move the Italian on for a big fee when they get the chance.
