When a club is set to sell a player they naturally want to get the most money they possibly can.

For months, the Portuguese press has been reporting that Sporting CP came to some sort of agreement with Viktor Gyökeres and his camp about selling for less than his €100m clause this summer.

It’s been thought interested clubs – with Arsenal repeatedly pushed forward as the club most keen – could secure the Sweden international for not much more than €70m.

That made a move for the 26-year-old all the more attractive.

Thursday’s edition of A Bola suggests Sporting may try and get that a little higher. Interest from Arsenal is pushed once again, and the Portuguese newspaper take repeated claims from the UK media about Mikel Arteta’s big budget for the summer window.

Perhaps naturally, Sporting now believe they can push things a little higher and get ‘closer to €100m’. How much closer will presumably depend on how many clubs arrive for Viktor Gyökeres when the market opens.

Should it just be Arsenal, then €70m may be the limit regardless of Sporting’s aims.
