Claudio Ranieri has explained where he thinks the Friedkin Group have gone wrong at Roma, and hinted Everton might be a better fit for their style of ownership.
Milan News cover comments from the new appointed Roma manager today in which he explains where he thinks the American owners have gone wrong in Rome.
Pressure has been growing on the group for months, with the takeover at Everton only one of several grievances for the Roma faithful.
Their real fury came from the sacking of Daniele de Rossi earlier this year, particularly given the fan favourite had righted the ship last season, been handed a big transfer window in the summer and signed a new long-term deal.
That fury only grew as Ivan Juric was sacked last week following a poor run of results, while the Friedkins remained silent on matters.
Ranieri has now had his say and clearly believes the American group may be better suited to life at Everton, based on his own experiences at Chelsea.
“We (Italians) are used to seeing things vertically, the Americans and the Friedkins make decisions horizontally, in a collegial manner,” he said.
“I understand that in Italy the figure of a president must be there. That’s what I told the president. Unfortunately, in Italy the president has to be seen… And instead, if you notice, all the foreign owners speak very little.
“I have four years, let’s say three, because then Abramovic came, and I only met him on the plane. They never spoke, they never said anything. And I was… in the grace of God. That is, we need the figure of the President. Abroad the figure of the President does not exist.
“And if he called me, it means that he realized (his mistakes). If there were people who… Well, he must have understood this, I didn’t tell him. Who was it that made a mistake? Who was it that did this? Why did that other thing happen? He told me, I want this, I want to take Roma to high levels. That’s why I called you. What more does a person have to say to me? He must have realized.”
