Surprising claims from Italy today link national team manager Roberto Mancini to West Ham United.
That’s reported by outlet CalcioMercatoWeb, who call the Hammers ‘one of the most ambitious clubs in the Premier League’, and says they’ve ‘decided’ to go for the coach.
Mancini himself is said to be studying the option of returning to England, as he won several trophies there when in charge of Manchester City.
But the story claims it wouldn’t be easy for West Ham to convince the coach, saying they’d need to offer him a salary of at least €10m per year, plus a ‘clear project’.
CalcioMercatoWeb mentions Mancini’s ‘temptation’ to move back to the Premier League and ‘leave his mark again’ following his success a decade ago.
The manager, however, still has his position at the national team, and has good reasons to stay in charge for the upcoming competitions.
So this will be a matter of how interesting the summer offers will be, and if West Ham are really decided to let David Moyes go, they must have a very convincing bid in hands to show the Italian manager.
Otherwise, West Ham might as well stick with their Scotsman for the time being.
