Ruben Semedo is the flavour of the week in Portugal. Don’t believe us? Since Monday, we’ve already had three different stories about him.
Now we have number four, as Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã claims to have learnt that Chelsea are really interested in signing the defender.
Chelsea have been watching all of Sporting’s recent games and the outlet takes this as one more proof that the Blues are following Semedo closely.
The reason why Antonio Conte would want the player is because he wants a sixth central defender in the squad. The newspaper can’t say if it would be a signing for the winter or the summer.
The Blues are also said to be chasing Real Madrid’s Pepe, but Semedo, who’s only 22, would be a better long-term option.
The Sporting player has a €45m release clause in a contract that runs until 2022. Correio da Manhã says that only an offer close to that price would make the club think about negotiating him.
As reported in the past few days and now reiterated by Correio da Manhã, Everton are also in the queue for the defender.
