Chelsea flop Romelu Lukaku appears to have changed his stance on a move to Saudi Arabia, praising their league after their clash with Roma yesterday.

Calciomercato cover comments from the striker today after Roma took on the Saudi side in a friendly and he was keen to praise them afterwards.

Lukaku was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer when it was made clear he wasn’t wanted back at Chelsea and needed to find a new club.

He was adamant that he was uninterested in the move on several occasions, making it clear that he wanted to remain playing in Europe for some time and didn’t see the league as a destination for himself any time soon.

That did not stop Al-Hilal from pushing for him and satisfied Chelsea’s requests at the time but couldn’t convince the Belgian, who wanted a return to Serie A and eventually secured a move to Roma.

It seems, though, he’s been watching what’s going on since then and is now more interested than he once was, with his comments after the game hinting at a change in his thinking.

“In the next two years I see the Saudi Pro League become one of the best in the world, if not the best,” he said.

“Clubs make a lot of effort to bring great players here. They are improving a lot and soon it could be the best competition ever.”

This comes one day after the same Calciomercato reported that Al-Hilal are now preparing a €30m/year contract for Lukaku to try and entice him to sign for them in the summer.

Coincidence?
