Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Manu Koné has revealed he idolised Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.
The Ivorian had two spells with the Blues, with the first one between 2004 to 2012 and the second spell came during the 2014/15 campaign.
Drogba’s stints at Chelsea made the midfielder fall in love with the Premier League side.
Bild had a detailed chat with the 21-year-old, where he was quizzed on which club he ‘adored’ during his childhood.
Responding to that, he said: “Real Madrid and Chelsea. Real because Cristiano Ronaldo played there. And Chelsea, because that’s where Didier Drogba was. Those were my idols!”
A few weeks ago, reports in the English press talked about Graham Potter’s side showing interest in the Frenchman. It’s not clear whether he’s still on the Blues’ transfer agenda for the next window.
Even though the player says he ‘adores’ Chelsea, a move to Stamford Bridge or another club in the near future isn’t a certainty. Koné has insisted he wants to continue his development at Gladbach.
When quizzed if he will continue at the German club until his contract with them expires in 2025 and not join a ‘top club’ in the summer, Koné explained: “I feel very comfortable at Borussia. The rumours about a move don’t bother me, I’m fully focused on the rest of the season. Then we’ll see what happens.”
