Maxwel Cornet spent the second half of the 2024/25 season on loan at Genoa and has now returned to West Ham.

The winger posted a message on his social media two days ago, confirming his return to the London club, having shown glimpses of his ability in Serie A.

Despite his return to West Ham, Genoa don’t want to have seen the last of Frenchman in Italy.

Secolo XIX, as relayed by CalcioGenoa, report Patrick Vieira’s side continue to work towards signing Cornet.

They want him on a loan deal and are asking West Ham for a big contribution to his salary for next season. Their intention is to divide the cost of the salary and there is uncertainty about the percentage share involved.

Something like this has been hinted at in the past as well, and it feels cheeky given they’ve already tried Cornet out.

It is a case of Genoa trying to execute a deal that favours them for a player who added obvious quality to their side. West Ham can potentially find buyers who can offer more money and that is why Genoa are perhaps being too optimistic about their chances.
