Aston Villa appointed Unai Emery as Steven Gerrard’s successor after sacking the ex-Rangers manager last October.
Emery has been in charge of 11 league games so far and has helped the Villans pick up 19 points in the process. This has seen them climb up the table and they currently in 11th spot, level on points with 10th placed Chelsea.
Earlier this week, Marca reported Aston Villa are preparing an ambitious project for the future and the former Arsenal manager has urged the Premier League side’s leaders to bring in Barcelona sporting director Mateu Alemany to lead it.
The La Liga side’s chief reportedly had an opportunity to double his salary at Aston Villa but he turned it down to continue at the Camp Nou.
Barca sealed a 1-0 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final. Prior to the match, Alemany was asked about the Aston Villa links.
“This is part of the private sphere and is of no great importance, but what is certain is that I will stay at Barca,” he told Movistar Plus+, relayed by Marca.
