Celtic find themselves being dragged into what looks like an increasingly bitter transfer tussle between Juventus and Atalanta, and it may work out well for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The background goes like this: Juventus have been trying to sign Teun Koopmeiners from Atalanta for weeks, but Le Dea are asking for €60m. In turn, Atalanta have identified Matt O’Riley as their number one target to replace Koopmeiners, but haven’t been able to agree a deal with Celtic yet.
TMW report that Juventus, feeling a bit annoyed that they haven’t yet been able to agree a deal for the midfielder they want, are now considering a ‘disruptive move’ for O’Riley.
The whole insinuation appears to be a threat from the Turin side, telling Atalanta they could lose the Koopmeiners sale and also the chance to sign the Celtic midfielder.
Juventus are said to have made direct contact with Celtic, and there’s only one reason that information is leaked… to pressure Atalanta into agreeing a Koopmeiners exit at less than €60m.
For Celtic, it’s no bad thing as the whole drama could push the final O’Riley fee higher.
