Celtic attempted to sign Mahamadou Diawara from Lyon in the summer transfer window.

The Scottish giants were said to have made an offer for the midfielder as Brendan Rodgers wanted more depth in midfield. The move didn’t go through, as Diawara stayed at Lyon.

At the French club this season, the youngster has played only twice in Ligue 1 and L’Equipe now believe that his future is uncertain.

The outlet state that the 19-year-old wanted regular first-team football this season. He spoke to Lyon multiple times about his game time and there is clear belief that his expectations are not being fulfilled.

Even the teenager’s entourage has been clear about the demands and there is annoyance that they were not met.

Celtic are still an interested club and the idea of a permanent exit in January is gaining ground. The Bhoys had made contact with Lyon in the summer over a move and some hope is provided to them about a winter transfer.

Diawara wants to play in a project where he gets more game time and Celtic could provide him just that.
