Rafa Mujica moved to Las Palmas on loan in the January transfer window, with the Leeds United player leaving a poor spell at Oviedo behind him.

It’s the 22-year-old’s fourth loan since joining Leeds as a free agent in 2019, after Barcelona released him from their B squad to let other prospects come through. Mujica was born in Las Palmas, and a return to his youth club was thought to be a good way for the attacker to get his career back on track.

Things started reasonably well in terms of minutes on the pitch, and he even managed to find the back of the net against UD Almeria in February. In mid March, Las Palmas’ president spoke about a longer stay“There’s an agreement in which UD Las Palmas can extend the contract beyond June 30th. If his performance continues as it’s been going, he must continue here.”

However, since March he’s only had 13 minutes on the pitch and the situation now looks very different indeed. Canarias7 say Mujica and Jese Rodriguez, who also arrived in January, have become ‘invisible signings’, not contributing enough.

A stay isn’t ruled out, and it’s stated ‘his case depends on Leeds’. That could mean La Palmas want a much cheaper deal than previously agreed.
