Marcus Edwards is ‘in the process’ of finalising his exit from Sporting Club de Portugal and will join Burnley.
That’s according to Record, who report that ‘negotiations are well underway’ between Burnley and Sporting about a move.
According to their information, Edwards is very close to leaving Sporting to join Burnley on loan with an option to buy if they are promoted to the Premier League.
They state that both Sunderland and Burnley have sought to understand the conditions for a possible deal for the Englishman in the last few hours. This tallies with reports yesterday stating that Sunderland were out in front for him.
However, negotiations have now ‘progressed in the right direction’ with Burnley and it appears the 26-year-old will be heading to Turf Moor rather than the Stadium of Light.
Edwards has been linked with a move away from Sporting for months after seemingly falling out of favour at the club. There have been several reports over the last month criticising his attitude and making it clear the Portuguese side wanted rid of him.
It appears they have now got their wish, and he will be heading to Burnley on loan, potentially permanently if they are promoted.
Burnley currently sit third in the Championship but two points off leaders Leeds United after 29 games of the season.
