At the weekend, ESPN Brasil featured an interview with Burnley fullback Vitinho.
There, the 23-year-old talked about his move to the Clarets, which happened following a €1m deal with Cercle Brugge last summer.
Vitinho explained that Vincent Kompany’s interest in him had been on for a long time, and the manager worked to get the Brazilian side as soon as he arrived at Burnley.
“I already knew, more or less, that he was interested in me, in Belgium, when he was at Anderlecht. That people had already told me that he liked my football, that he had been following me for a while,” Vitinho told ESPN Brasil.
“And when he came here, to tell you the truth, I didn’t expect that he would still want me. And when I found out that he continued, that he wanted me here at Burnley, I was super happy.”
The player also claimed he’s been learning a lot from Kompany, as the manager has strong tactical attributes.
“I say that when I started working with him I started to see football in a different way, because it’s a lot of tactics, it’s a lot of new things that you learn that I didn’t know before, I hadn’t heard of it yet.”
Vitinho already has 35 appearances for Burnley this season, and even managed to have three goals and three assists so far.
Vincent Kompany’s side were eliminated by Manchester City in the FA Cup last weekend with a 6-0 defeat, so it’s now time to fully focus on their Championship campaign.
Burnley are currently top of the table and fighting strong for the direct promotion to the Premier League.
They will now rest during the international break and are back in action on the 31st of March, when they play Sunderland at Turf Moor.
