Burnley FC took Wout Weghorst from VfL Wolfsburg in January to help them avoid relegation from the Premier League last season.

He was unable to stop the Clarets from dropping to the second division. The striker was then loaned out to Beşiktaş in the summer window.

The Burnley owned player has had a good start to his life in Turkey, managing six goals and four assists from 12 league matches. His form for the Süper Lig side can convince them to retain the 30-year-old beyond this season.

Beşiktaş sporting director Ceyhun Kazancı has admitted his club can hope of retaining the Dutchman if Vincent Kompany’s side fail to get promoted to the Premier League.

They are currently leading the Championship table with 35 points from 18 games, two points ahead of Blackburn Rovers, who are in the second place.

“If they make it to the Premier League, they will naturally have a big budget. In this case, they may prefer to use Weghorst. Weghorst can also consider playing in the Premier League as a priority choice,” Kazancı was quoted as saying by Akşam.

Beşiktaş have an option to make Weghorst’s loan deal permanent, but the fee agreed with Burnley could change depending on how Kompany’s side will be finish this season.

“It’s early. Many things can change over time. The transfer fee for Weghorst is €10m. This is a very high price, of course, but this number may change depending on whether Burnley will make it to the Premier League. Rachid Ghezzal’s cost was also €15m, but we bought him for €3m,” Kazancı added.
