Burnley have seen a loan bid for NEC Nijmegen winger Sontje Hansen rejected by the Dutch club.

That’s according to journalist Sebastien Denis, who reports that Burnley’s initial offer has been turned down by Nijmegen at this moment in time.

He reports that Burnley made a loan offer for the winger, who can play all across the front three and has four goals and one assist in 16 games in the Eredivisie this season.

Denis makes no mention of the nature of the offer from Burnley, just that it was a loan offer. We would assume it was a loan with a purchase option, which has been the trend for most clubs in this January transfer window.

Either way, it was rejected by Nijmegen, who were either unimpressed by what they were offered or uninterested in letting Hansen go.

It would be surprising if it was the latter given the 22-year-old has not been in their squad for their last two games, sat on the bench for the game before that and has only featured in 48% of the available minutes in the Eredivisie this season.

That would suggest he’s not considered a key player, but Burnley have to offer something better if they wish to sign him before the window closes.
