Burnley are edging closer to completing a deal for Montpellier’s Maxime Estève late in the winter market.
That’s according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, who has provided the latest on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Aouna claims the 21-year-old is ‘on his way’ to Manchester, to carry out formalities related to sealing a permanent move to the Premier League club. He adds that a Burnley medical is ‘booked today’ for the centre-back.
On Tuesday, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri said the Clarets have found an agreement with the Ligue 1 side for the defender’s transfer, but didn’t provide any figures.
Earlier claims had stated that Burnley have met the €12m fee requested for the centre-back but were trying to delay the payments, which didn’t please the French club.
Two days ago, Foot Mercato reported Montpellier wanted a large chunk of €12m up front, and Vincent Kompany’s side have made a new offer to unblock the situation.
The details of the transfer have been ironed out between the two clubs, resulting in the player making a trip to England for his Burnley medical.
Estève has made 13 appearances this season, managing a goal and an assist in the process.
