Ever since Jordan Beyer signed for Burnley on loan, the defender’s future has been up in the air, with some contradicting reports about a clause in the deal.
The centre-back has been one of the key reasons why Vincent Kompany’s side are doing so well in the Championship this season, and it’s clear that, should they go up, it would make sense for the Clarets to keep him around.
At first, it was thought the player would return to Borussia Mönchengladbach no matter what, but that is no longer the case.
Sport Bild have a big article on the matter on Thursday, revealing some information about a clause that is in the deal with Burnley.
They state that Beyer’s future is now out of the Bundesliga club’s hands, and with Burnley now 19 points clear of third placed Middlesbrough, their return to the top flight is almost guaranteed.
If that happens, then Burnley ‘have a purchase option that is in the double digit million range’.
That means €10m or above, and considering the amount of money clubs who get promoted to the Premier League receive, it’s clear the club would be able to afford that.
That’s why the fee to sign Beyer ‘is no problem’, and unless something strange happens, Beyer will remain at Turf Moor.
This was hinted at by Roland Virkus, the German side’s sports director: “Of course, when you loan a player, you think about why you’re doing it. You want to bring back a better player. It’s only logical that Burnley are now trying to keep this player in England.
“And if you can play Premier League, then you think about whether you want to take this step. We’d love to bring Jordan back, no question. But all sides have to want that. We do not have the reins of action in our hands.”
