Handed the reins at Wolverhampton Wanderers following a decent spell as Benfica manager, Bruno Lage lasted 51 games at Molineux.
There was initial hope the Portuguese manager could be the one to bring success to the Premier League club, much like Nuno Espírito Santo had done before him, but it wasn’t to be.
The 46-year-old was sacked by Wolves earlier in the season, and replacing him has been a bit tougher than first anticipated.
Julen Lopetegui appears to be the one the club are going after, returning to the Spaniard after he initially turned them down, but whether they are successful remains to be seen.
In the meantime, a few managers have been attending the Web Summit, which has seen the likes of André Villas-Boas and Bruno Lage talk on panels, where the latter brought up his time at Wolves.
He made clear that after his last two stints as a manager, he wants to make sure his next step is the ‘right project’ for him.
He added, relayed by Record: “I had good ideas for Benfica and Wolves, but I didn’t have the time or the right players to continue. I didn’t need expensive players, but the right ones.”
Lage then expanded on his time at Molineux specifically: “We can’t compete in the Premier League without a striker. Every time we played without a striker, we lost. The performances is completely different. Another thing we learned was that it’s very important for players to arrive in time for pre-season.
“It’s so competitive and when they get to the end of the market, it’s very difficult for players to adapt.”
