On May 16th, we covered claims from Brazil that Newcastle United are ‘preparing a fierce battle’ to retain Bruno Guimarães. It was also stated they have started talks to extend his contract beyond 2028.

Four days later, TNT Sports Brasil’s Marcelo Bechler stated Al-Ittihad have held talks with all parties to sign the 27-year-old.

Fast forward to June and UOL backs up Al-Ittihad’s interest and provides the latest on the Newcastle star.

They state the midfielder’s agent has been in Saudi Arabia talking to interested parties and Al-Ittihad is the club to have come closest to doing anything about their interest. They found out the conditions needed to secure his services, but didn’t make an official bid.

That’s because UOL report the Brazil international has decided to continue with Newcastle United at least for another season. He ‘resists temptation’ from the Middle East in order to stay with Eddie Howe’s side.

Guimarães believes moving to Saudi Arabia could impact his chances of being a starter for Brazil at the 2026 World Cup. In addition to this, there are two other key factors that has ‘weighed in on his decision’ to stay at Newcastle.

The Magpies have qualified for the Champions League and won their first silverware in 70 years. The former Lyon man has become a bigger fan favourite and further strengthened his connection with the Tyneside club’s supporters.

These are several reasons Guimarães ‘resists temptation’ from Saudi to continue with Newcastle United, and interested parties will have to wait.
