Brighton and Hove Albion have ‘taken their first steps’ towards signing Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say the Seagulls will have to spend at least €35m if they wish to sign the midfielder.
They explain that Frattesi will ‘certainly leave’ Sassuolo in the summer, with AS Roma likely to return for a third effort after failing to get him in the last two transfer windows.
Those potential deals collapsed because Sassuolo refused to give any discounts on the player, something that displeased Roma and Frattesi.
Those negotiations have cooled off in recent months, particularly as Roma are set to sign Houssem Aouar when he becomes a free agent at the end of the season.
There will be a third attempt nonetheless, although this time they are likely to face competition from Juventus and Brighton, with the latter having ‘taken their first steps’ towards a transfer.
They’ve been linked with a move for Frattesi for several months, with it stated earlier this month that contacts had already been held about a move.
CM now seemingly back that up and say the first steps have been taken, although Brighton will need at least €35m to get their man, even if that includes any players as part of the deal.
Whether that’s a price they’re willing to pay remains to be seen, although with potential deals for Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, there’s every chance they’ll have the funds to use.
