Brighton & Hove Albion have joined Arsenal and other clubs in the chase for Palmeiras’ Vitor Reis, according to ESPN in Brazil.
On Thursday, Nosso Palestra stated Arsenal have made contact to and are expected to make an offer in the coming weeks for the defender.
A day later, Goal in Brazil backed up Arsenal making contact to secure the centre-back’s services.
ESPN state Arsenal are in the picture to sign the 18-year-old when providing the latest on Brighton’s interest.
Reis graduated from the Brazilian club’s academy and made his way into their senior team earlier this year. His performances, profile and potential would have caught the attention of Brighton, Arsenal and other European clubs.
The Seagulls have taken further steps by offering a €25m bid, but it was turned down by Palmeiras. They are ‘playing hardball’ and have warned Brighton that the youngster won’t be sold until next summer’s Club World Cup.
It’s claimed the South American club will only agree to sell Reis if there’s an offer similar to the one made by Chelsea for Estêvão. The Blues agreed a €61.5m deal including bonuses with Palmeiras back in June.
In other words, Brighton need to double their offer [including bonuses] to sign Reis.
Earlier reports stated Arsenal are expected to make an offer and it now remains to be seen if they will react after Brighton tabled a bid for the youngster.
