It seems Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in one of Lionel Messi’s teammates.
According to agent Renato Bittar, the Seagulls have been following Inter Miami midfielder Diego Gomez.
The revelation was made in a chat with Paraguayan outlet ABC. During the Cardinal Deportivo show, he claimed Brighton have been scouting the 20-year-old recently.
“It’s real, Brighton are following him, they went to see him in the United States. We have had meetings with them and with other European teams.”
The agent also claimed that Brighton and others are expected to place their bids in the summer.
The representative himself admitted that Inter Miami should now stay on the way to a potential move to Europe.
“Since we arrived at Inter we have been talking to them about the fact that it is a transition process. We have the commitment that they are not going to put obstacles in their way, while taking care of their assets.”
Diego Gomez used to play for Libertad in Paraguay, and was sold to Inter Miami last summer for just €2.7m. He’s only made 19 appearances for David Beckham’s club and already seems to be drawing attention from Europe.
Now if we take a look back and recall that Brighton signed Julio Enciso from the very same Libertad back in 2022, the situation may be no coincidence, as the Seagulls may have seen Gomez’s potential back then and built their interest further after watching his MLS development.
