Back in January, several reports from the Spanish media detailed Brentford’s failed attempt to get Assane Diao signed from Real Betis.

The Bees could not reach an agreement to bring the 18-year-old to England, but it now seems that the possibility of a Premier League move is not over yet.

Outlet Estadio Deportivo today shares a story on Diao and Betis’ ‘plan’ for him this summer, as the club are said to be ‘open’ about his potential departure.

The story recalls that Brentford tried to sign the player in January with a ‘succulent offer’, and the operation was ‘not far from being completed’.

It’s now said Diao ‘continues to attract attention’ from the Premier League, and the sale is ‘considered as a possibility to clean up the accounts’ at the La Liga side.

The teenager is protected by a €30m release clause. That was the price to take him in January and should probably continue to be the request for the summer.

Now it will be up to Brentford, or any other Premier League club, to try the signing again.

The story acknowledges that the timing for those negotiations have passed, but Betis are ‘not closed off’ to starting fresh talks.
