At the weekend, Dean Huijsen scored in AFC Bournemouth’s 2-1 win over Arsenal in the league. It was the centre-back’s third goal for the club since joining them from Juventus last summer.
The latest win helps Bournemouth sit in eighth place, seven points behind seventh placed Aston Villa.
Speaking to AS, the 20-year-old said helping Bournemouth qualify for Europe for the first time in their history is their goal.
“[That] is the goal. We want to make history, because that would be a permanent fixture. Hopefully, it can be like that,” he said.
AS points out the Spain international’s future could be away from the Premier League club after this season. His rise at Bournemouth has seen him attract interest from clubs in England and across Europe.
An earlier claim from the same newspaper stated Chelsea are ahead in the race and are willing to pay his €60m clause.
AS relays it and adds Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are following the Bournemouth star. Real Madrid also have Huijsen on their target list for the summer window.
They asked the young defender how he’s handling the pressure and whether he’s aware of the money he could leave Bournemouth this season. The player insists he isn’t focusing on transfer links and remains committed to Andoni Iraola’s side.
“I don’t know… I’m a chill guy, like I do when I celebrate [laughs]. I don’t think about it much. Every day I go to training, to play in the games, and I’m happy,” Huijsen explained.
“I’m having a good time and I’m not thinking about that. It’s up to you to judge that. I’m not thinking about that; I’m focused on Bournemouth.
“We’re having a very good season. We’ve already broken the points record and we want to get as many points as possible this season.”
This indicates any developments around Huijsen’s future won’t take place at least until the end of Bournemouth’s season.
