Two days ago, journalist Sacha Tavolieri reported Manchester City are expected to make an offer this week to sign Rennes star Jérémy Doku.
RMC Sport now state the winger is one of the priority targets for the Citizens. He started the season on a bright note by scoring in his side’s 5-1 win over FC Metz on Sunday.
Manchester City have received a boost in their pursuit of the 21-year-old after Rennes manager Bruno Génésio opened the door for his sale this summer.
“It all depends on the offer we are talking about. There are offers that are difficult to refuse, whether for players, a coach or other players in football,” he said.
“For the moment, we are not there. I’ve no information on what I read or hear. He’s a Rennes player, he showed it tonight. Until proven otherwise, he can be used.”
The Belgium international has a deal until 2025 and RMC Sport say the Ligue 1 side value him at €50m. Pep Guardiola’s side sold Riyad Mahrez to Al-Ahli and view Doku as one of the main candidates to replace the Algerian.
Manchester City’s desire to sign the former Anderlecht man is also covered by Het Laatste Nieuws. They state a Citizens scout was in attendance to watch Doku in action against Metz.
Doku is ‘certainly high on the list’ at the Etihad to replace Mahrez but HLN say there is ‘no concrete offer yet’ from Manchester City.
The English champions long had doubts about the attacker’s injury record and whether he can fit into Guardiola’s style. The report suggests they could overlook these factors for his ‘raw talent’.
