On Tuesday, AS stated Gavi’s agent Iván De la Peña had a meeting with Chelsea in Madrid a few weeks ago to discuss the possibility of the Barcelona star moving to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
It was also explained the Blues are planning to hold further talks with the midfielder’s agent to outline the potential operation in more detail, and the two parties have agreed to continue ‘moving forward’ over this shock deal.
Following AS’ surprise claim about Chelsea’s meeting with De la Peña, Mundo Deportivo got in touch with his camp for an update.
The Spain international’s entourage have denied the claim and have also assured the newspaper: “There’s nothing with any club.”
Mundo add the teenager’s representative has held talks with the west London club in recent times. These talks weren’t related to Gavi and were focused on Luis Enrique, who is in the running to become the Blues’ permanent manager from next season.
Meanwhile, AS aren’t backing down and have come up with another report providing fresh updates on Chelsea’s pursuit of Gavi. They state a second meeting will take place soon.
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly will attend the meeting, along with the player’s parents and his representative.
Boehly ‘wants to convey’ to the Spaniard’s parents the important role Gavi will have in their ambitious project and also answer any questions they might want to ask.
Gavi hasn’t closed the door on Chelsea but his initial plan is to continue at the Camp Nou, where he has a contract until 2026.
This won’t come into effect until Barca meet La Liga’s financial fair play requirements and he’s back to his earlier deal that expires after this season. If Barca don’t manage to lower their wage bill enough before June 30th, Gavi will be a free agent.
Chelsea are waiting, hoping that they can snatch him away from the Blaugrana for free. The Blues are willing to make him ‘one of the highest paid players’ at Stamford Bridge.
