Tottenham Hotspur have made it to the Europa League final after sealing a 5-1 aggregate win over Bodø/Glimt.
Spurs had a 3-1 advantage from the first leg and the second match took place in Norway on Thursday. Bodø/Glimt had a lot of possession at home but weren’t able to find the back of the net.
Dominic Solanke gave Tottenham the lead in the 63rd minute before Pedro Porro got his name on the score sheet six minutes later.
TV2 state Spurs star Cristian Romero had a heated exchange with Bodø/Glimt’s Jostein Gundersen yesterday.
The incident took place when the 27-year-old and his teammates were celebrating Porro’s goal in front of the Norwegian club’s fans. This didn’t please Gundersen, who had a verbal spat with the Argentine international.
After the first leg, multiple Bodø/Glimt players made comments about Tottenham which weren’t exactly dripping with respect, and that will have added some spice.
TV2 got in touch with the 29-year-old Norway international, who insisted he didn’t like what he saw from Tottenham.
“I feel like they are trying to get on our nerves. I didn’t like that. That’s football. After the match there was a ‘handshake’ and a good atmosphere,” he said.
The Bodø/Glimt defender then went on elaborate the words he exchanged with the former Atalanta man.
“He [Romero] first started with some comments to me, and then I responded. He said something like ‘you guys shouldn’t talk so much’. It was in the heat of the match. Then we’ll put it behind us,” Gundersen explained.
“The referee said we shouldn’t argue, and we had to calm down. He didn’t want anything like that. If we went to each other, we would get a card.”
When asked what he thinks of Tottenham getting upset with him, the Norwegian said: “I think we should take it as a compliment. They were nervous about how it would go. They took us very seriously. It meant everything to them.”
Tottenham must beat Manchester United in the final to qualify for the Champions League. This would be the main reason why they had to take Bodø/Glim ‘very seriously’.
