Earlier this month, the British press reported Newcastle United are looking to sign Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry this summer.

On July 15th, Bild stated the Bundesliga side would like to sell the forward this summer. It was also reported the Magpies have to convince the player to get the deal over the line.

A day later, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg ruled out the possibility of the 29-year-old moving to Newcastle.

Süddeutsche Zeitung had a detailed chat with Gnabry and one of the topics discussed was about his future. The Germany international has two years left on his contract, and recent claims have stated the Bavarian club are looking to part ways with him in this window.

The newspaper directly asked the former Arsenal man about these claims and also about the recent reports linking him with a move to the Tyneside club.

“To be honest, I find it a bit crazy how wildly there is speculation back and forth, not just with my name, but also with the names of my teammates. Especially since we all still have valid contracts and are still playing football at the highest level,” he said.

The attacker was then asked whether it means he wants to continue at Bayern. Gnabry explained: “I want to stay healthy and attack again. I believe in myself and know what I can give the team.”

Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß has insisted that the club have to sell some of the players before making any further additions to the squad.

“I can only speak for myself: I want to get back in shape and perform the way people are used to from me. I still have two years left on my contract, there is no pressure,” he added.

Süddeutsche Zeitung pointed out to Gnabry that he hasn’t mentioned he wants to stay at Bayern.

Responding to that, the player said: “But I didn’t say I wanted to go either!”

From his response, the outlet have interpreted that Gnabry would like to stay, but he isn’t sure what could happen with his future at Bayern in this window. This suggests that at this point in time, his future remains uncertain.
