Bruno Guimaraes’ move to Newcastle United was motivated by the ‘big salary’ on offer, a decision he may end up regretting.

That’s according to journalist Walid Acherchour, who has advised Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara against making the same decision as the Brazilian.

Kamara looks set for a high profile move this summer when his contract comes to an end with Marseille, meaning he’ll be available on a free transfer.

Newcastle could be one of those interested and do have a strong history of signing players from France, as they did with Guimaraes in January.

He arrived from Lyon in a £37.89m deal at the end of the window, a move which largely came about because of the money the Magpies offered the French club and the player to make it happen.

There are, of course, those who believe that is not the way to go about things, and Acherchour is one of them, advising Kamara to avoid going where there is the most money, as Guimaraes did with Newcastle.

“If Boubacar Kamara should stay at OM? I am divided. He must leave, but it depends where,” Foot Radio reports him saying

“I think he should go to a club in the European top 12 or top 14. There will be more room at AC Milan, for example, with the departure of Kessie, Borussia Dortmund…

“These kinds of teams, yes. But if it’s to go and bury himself and take a big salary like Bruno Guimaraes, like Morgan Sanson.

“There are plenty of examples of midfielders from Ligue 1 who left for the Premier League, and I do not think they have made the right choice.”
